Vedernikov Winery presents a collection of pet-nats

Vedernikov Winery presents a novelty — a unique collection of seven pet-nats in a style reflecting the energy and freedom of the Don steppes. The collection includes fresh and original pet-nats from autochthonous grape varieties - Krasnostop Zolotovsky, Golubka and Platovsky, and from international varieties - Riesling, Aligoté, Pinot Noir. Last year, the winery produced the first pet-nat from the 100% autochthonous Tsimlyansky Black variety, and this year's new edition completes the collection.

Quite recently, bright wines with non-standard contents - pet-nats - burst outrageously into the world of traditional winemaking. Today pet nat is a sparkling wine for those who like original and fresh drinks. From French, pét-nat, or pétillant naturel, is translated as "natural sparkling", which appeared quite by accident - the first mention of the method dates back to the 16th century. After the harvest, the weather grew colder that caused a stop of fermentation. Winemakers believed that the process was already completed and bottled the wine. However, with the advent of heat, wine yeast started fermentation once again already in a corked bottle. Therefore, after its opening, it turned out to be sparkling wine, and not still wine. This is how sparkling wines appeared, made according to the ancestrale method with one fermentation, which begins in a vessel at the winery and ends in the bottle: fermentation in tanks is stopped by cooling for several months, wine with residual sugar is poured into bottles, where fermentation continues and the wine becomes sparkling.

Vedernikov Winery, which is part of the Abrau-Durso Group of Companies, from year to year demonstrates extraordinary solutions in making unique wines from native Russian and European grape varieties. The new collection of pet-nats continues to amaze and consists of seven different stories, readings and interpretations of sparkling wine, each has an invigorating mood of mischievous youth.

The unique grape variety Krasnostop Zolotovsky, the property of the Vedernikov Winery, is especially interesting. The first Russian pet-nat from the autochthonous Rostov variety Krasnostop Zolotovsky is a semi-dry sparkling wine with a ruby-red color, moderately intense aroma with notes of prunes, pomegranate, nightshade, leather, coffee and mist. The diversity of flavors inherent in the variety, one of the most famous Russian autochthons abroad, is expressed in balance and moderate tannins. Dried cherries and prunes dominate; smoked notes are felt in the background, chocolate biscuit and pomegranate in the final. Pet-nat from the flagship variety underlines the readiness of Vedernikov Winery to successfully experiment and continue working with this exceptional variety.

Pet-nat from the Don autochthon Golubok is an extravagant brut with a deep ruby red color with purple highlights. It is ideal for those who are always looking for something unusual and new. Moderately bright, berry aroma is combined with the taste of black currant with notes of pomegranate.

The only one on the Russian wine market, the exclusive and frivolous pet-nat from the Platovsky hybrid variety will impress fans of progressive wines. The sparkling wine has a harmonious aroma of ripe apple, acacia flowers with a light tone of soaked apples. It has a rich, very fresh taste with crisp acidity and a long fresh aftertaste.

Pet-nat from the Tsimlyansky Black autochthonous variety released for the first time last year is now presented in a new edition. The wine is deep pink in color with raspberry hues. A bouquet with juicy tones of red berries and barberry complements the fresh, light and balanced taste with hints of fruit and dogwood. This wine remains in the memory, like light and pleasant summer memories.

For those who are tired of serious wines, but prefer to see the old classics in a new way, we made pet-nats from three classic European varieties: Riesling, Aligoté, Pinot Noir.

Light straw with slight green highlights, Vedernikov Winery's Pet-Nat Riesling exhibits a medium-intensity perlage with fine bubbles gathering into pearl strands, a bright and fresh tropical bouquet with hints of banana and mango, bergamot, grassy and mineral nuances.

Pet-nat Aligote, preserving the fresh aroma of apricot and quince, red apple, white flowers and a light tone of bread crust inherent in the grape variety, will suit lovers of elegance. Clean and balanced taste of green apple, apricot and citrus fruits is expressed in invigorating acidity and close to the classics.

Created from Pinot Noir, this sparkling wine is a reflection of the sophistication in the pet-nat collection. The multifaceted aroma that distinguishes the famous classic variety is filled with delicate berry shades, with ripe cherries in the foreground, barberries and pomegranates in the final.

"Vedernikov Winery has its own way, we follow modern trends, but we do not blindly follow them. We have our own technological concept based on the vision of the chief winemaker and the whole team. The pet-nats project is a vivid illustration of this approach. We presented the first samples when we had our own unique perspective on this style. The Vedernikov Winery pet-nats are created for innovators, lovers of interesting and bright wines," said Maxim Troychuk, head of Vedernikov Wineries.

The Vedernikov Winery pet-nats collection is a bold project that reflects modern trends while preserving devotion to traditions and love for the native Don land. A bright and interesting reading of each variety will allow connoisseurs and wine lovers to find their unique sparkling wine. The new collection of pet-nats is already presented in the Abrau-Durso Wine Atelier brand stores in Moscow, and will soon appear in leading restaurants in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The cost of each sample in the Moscow Wine Atelier is 1590 rubles, and the Krasnostop Zolotovsky pet-nat costs 1790 rubles.
